Jane Catherine (Rother) Ludwig
June 22, 1932 - July 8, 2023
Jane Ludwig, age 91, of Cannon Falls passed away at home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Hampton Township, arriving into the world at her Grandma and Grandpa Weiler’s home. Jane attended grade school at St. Mathias in Hampton, and later Farmington High School. On October 24,1951 she married Donald Ludwig and raised their children on the family farm in New Trier.
Part of farming included caring for many, many chickens, gathering and washing thousands of eggs, plus milking a hundred+ Holstein cows, each and every day! In addition, she prepared the family and farm helper meals, which always included her delicious pies and cookies, and included her personal delivery to the crew in the fields.
She spent endless hours in her gardens, growing, weeding, harvesting and canning many different fruits and vegetables throughout the seasons. Her fondness for flowers developed a talent for growing many varieties with some of her favorites being Roses, Chrysanthemums, Hydrangeas, Stephanotis along with growing many indoor plants.
Jane was a prankster! Oh how she loved to play mostly innocent tricks on family and friends. Her annual highlight was Halloween and costuming up with her neighbor friends Dorthy and Rosella and would have the time of their lives. To this day some still do not know who was behind those masks… your secret is safe Mom.
After farming Jane went to work at the Cannon Falls Nursing home and worked there 32 years, retiring at age of 80.
Her love for her family flowed over into her care-giving, baking, cooking, gardening and her great joy of flowers, especially roses. She was the best baker ever, always having fresh homemade bread, Christmas cutout frosted cookies, her mouthwatering rhubarb dessert with the mile-high meringue and oh the endless pies!
Jane loved the Christmas season, the decorating, baking, entertaining, music, though even more important was respect, honor and dedication for her Catholic faith.
In her spare time Jane would travel to Herberger’s department stores with a stop after at Perkins for coffee and eats.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald “Donnie”, sons William and Roger, parents Helen and Raymond Rother, sister Mildred, brother Richard “Swede”, sisters-in-law Mary Catherine (Lawrence) and Linda, brothers-in-law John (Lois), Nick and Joe.
She is survived by her children, Francis, Shirley (Dennis), Richard (Carol), Beverly (Harold), Gary, Wendy (Jim), 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many phurry-grandchildren, brother Jim (Diane), sister Mary (Elmer), sisters-in-law Joyce and Luella, brother-in-law Hubert (Susan) and many nieces and nephews and neighbor friends.
Jane Catherine is forever in our hearts.
Our mother was an honest, caring, loving soul with a strong dedication to her Catholic faith. Her love and caring were endless, her sacrifices many. We shall never forget the memories and values instilled in us growing up on the family farm.
Jane’s wishes were honored with her bequest of gifting herself to Mayo Clinic Science and Research. Even in death Jane continues to give back to make our world a better place.
Jane’s family welcomes you to attend the funeral celebrating her life on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 4:00 pm at St Pius V Church in Cannon Falls. Visitation is from 3:00-4:00 pm.
